As you probably already know, the upcoming season of ?he King of All Reality Shows??is set in the Pet?? region of northern Guatemala (CBS Survivor: Guatemala starts in mid-September, 2005). What you may not be aware of is that NO exploration of this still largely isolated and exotic ancient Mayan homeland would be complete without experiencing the captivating musical tradition considered a national treasure??a marimba.

Mexican Marimba Ensemble celebrates its First Anniversary as Marimba Sol de Chiapas and the sharing of the magical marimba traditions of Mesoamerica with audiences worldwide for more than seventeen years (formerly as Marimba Yajal??)!!!

Call for Compositions
1st Annual Quey Percussion Duo Composition Contest

PURPOSE
To encourage the composition of new works for percussion duo

PRIZE
1st Place Winner
$500
Publication by HoneyRock Publishing
Premiere of the work by Quey Percussion Duo in Spring 2006

2nd Place Winner
$250
Premiere of the work by Quey Percussion Duo in Spring 2006

COMPOSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 5-10 minute original work for percussion duo
- Small to medium percussion set-up with or without keyboard instruments (Multiple-Percussion Duo) OR any combination of a mallet duo (Marimba Duo, Marimba/Vibraphone, etc?)
- Difficulty of the composition is left to the composer, however realistic performance demands should be considered
- Previously commissioned or published works may not be submitted

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- 3 copies of the work must be submitted with the composer?s name on the score
- If the score is not computer generated the manuscript must be clearly notated
- 1 CD or cassette of midi performance is not required, but is preferable

All materials must be postmarked by October 1st, 2005 and sent to:
