Article
This album documents Junko Sakimura's 1994 recital at von Kuster Hall in London, Ontario. Much of the programme is modern Japanese repertoire, including works by Toshiro Mayuzumi and Akira Yuyama. It was released digitally on the Tonescape label in 2013.
Mayuzumi's Concertino for Xylophone is a rare example of a Japanese performer presenting this distinctly Japanese work. The introduction to the second movement particularly highlights Kumi Miyagawa's piano and its Japanese rhythmic character.
