The marimba final of the 41st Japan Wind and Percussion Competition takes place at 13:00 on Friday, August 21, 2026, in TCM Hall at Tokyo College of Music's Nakameguro–Daikanyama Campus. The first round, second round, and final are all open to the public with free admission.
The marimba category begins with the first round on August 17–18, followed by the second round on August 20. The final-round work is Akira Ifukube's Lauda Concertata, performed complete. Memorization is not required, and the final is not judged blind.
The jury is chaired by Atsushi Sugahara, with Kazuko Ogawa, Momoko Kamiya, Makoto Nakura, Tomohiro Nishikubo, Fumito Nunoya, and Mutsuko Fujii. As of July 23, 2026, the finalists and performance order had not been announced. Please check the official competition website for the latest information.
The first-prize winner from each category will appear at the Special Grand Prize Concert and Awards Ceremony at 17:00 on August 31 at Katsushika Symphony Hills. Kazufumi Yamashita conducts The Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra, Tokyo.
The campus is at 1-9-1 Kamimeguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo, about a five-minute walk from either Nakameguro or Daikanyama Station.
