The 15th Italy Percussion Competition includes a marimba section scheduled for 2017-09-19/2017-09-24 at Centro Congressi Serena Majestic in Montesilvano, near Pescara. Italy Percussive Arts Society runs the competition during its Days of Percussion festival.
Marimba categories and entry
Soloists of any nationality may enter. The marimba section has Category A (up to 18 years), B (19–25 years) and C (26–32 years). Applications are due 2017-06-04; document and fee submission is due 2017-06-18 and repertoire-list submission is due 2017-07-31. The entry fee is €100, with €70 for an additional instrument section.
Adjudication and announced awards
The instrument sections are judged concurrently by separate panels during 2017-09-19/2017-09-24. A panel member with a teaching or family relationship to a contestant must abstain from deliberation and voting on that performance. The score thresholds are 98/100 for an absolute first prize, 95–97 for first, 90–94 for second and 85–89 for third; ties are permitted.
Top awards include sponsor prizes and diplomas, and a €2,000 special cash prize for the first or absolute-first marimba contestant in Category C. If Category C has no winner, the special prize may go to Category B or A. A €300 scholarship is also offered for a marimba or vibraphone performance of a Claudio Santangelo work.
The Italian-language rules provide the complete conditions.
