Sugaria is an album by marimbist and arranger Ria Ideta containing eleven tracks arranged for marimba and piano. A digital edition was released on March 25, 2024, followed by the WIST-0002 CD on June 5. The album was produced and released by Wisteria Project and distributed by Sony Music Solutions.
The programme includes three selections from Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye and his Pavane pour une infante défunte; Joe Hisaishi’s A Town with an Ocean View and Ashitaka and San; Mozart’s Ave verum corpus; Bill Whelan’s Riverdance; Ennio Morricone’s Cinema Paradiso theme; Stanley Myers’s Cavatina; and all three movements of Eric Sammut’s Sugaria.
Ideta performs the marimba and prepared the album’s arrangements. In her own notes, she explains that her Paris Conservatoire teacher Eric Sammut placed “Ria” in the work’s title and that she gave its world premiere in 2007.
