Saulius Auglys-Stanevičius, also credited as Saulius Auglys, is a Lithuanian percussionist, marimbist, composer, arranger, educator, and festival organizer. Born in Ukmergė in 1969, he began his music studies there and graduated from the Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpša Conservatory. He studied marimba with Linda Maxey and received first prize in Lithuania’s young performers competition in 1987.
Auglys began working at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in 1988 and was appointed head of its orchestra’s percussion section in 1993. He has also performed with Lithuanian symphony orchestras and at venues and festivals in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Belarus, Mexico, and elsewhere. His recent institutional appearances include a Lithuanian National Philharmonic concert in October 2024 and a two-day marimba, vibraphone, and xylophone workshop and concert at the Chopin University of Music in April 2025.
Contemporary Lithuanian music is central to Auglys’s repertoire. He has performed works by composers including Osvaldas Balakauskas, Vytautas Germanavičius, Zita Bružaitė, Loreta Narvilaitė, Mindaugas Urbaitis, Arvydas Malcys, and Antanas Kučinskas, several of whom wrote or dedicated music for him. He also composes and arranges for marimba, percussion ensemble, chamber ensemble, and orchestra; his catalogue includes concert works, studies, and arrangements of Paganini caprices.
Auglys teaches percussion and leads workshops and has organized international percussion festivals and competitions in Lithuania. Results from a Lithuanian music-performers competition in 2026 name several prize-winning soloists and ensembles taught by him. His solo album Marimba mano gyvenimas (Marimba My Life) presents him under the shortened credit Saulius Auglys in repertoire for marimba, including works by Bach, Tárrega, Nebojša Jovan Živković, Keiko Abe, Toshimitsu Tanaka, and Lithuanian composers.
