Honoka Tomita began piano at age three and marimba at age six. She received first prize at the 26th Japan Classical Music Competition, an Excellence Award and the Kobe Cultural Foundation Award at the 22nd KOBE International Music Competition, and second prize at the 20th Yangtze River Cup International Music Competition. She studied percussion and marimba with Shinichi Ueno, Itaru Akuhara, Hisae Hirako, and Junko Sakimura and graduated from Kunitachi College of Music.
