Momoko Kamiya is a Japanese marimbist and educator. She studied at Keio schools from kindergarten, became the first student admitted to Tokyo University of the Arts as a marimba soloist, and later earned a Bachelor of Music from the Juilliard School. She won first prize at the Luxembourg International Marimba Competition in 1995 and received the Kawasaki City Azalea Award in fiscal 2005.
Kamiya has performed in Japan and internationally as a soloist and concerto soloist, appearing with orchestras including the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and ensembles in Europe and Asia. She has premiered works by composers including Joe Hisaishi, Toshiyuki Watanabe, Kousuke Yamashita, and Kazunori Miyake. Her work also includes masterclasses and jury service for international percussion and marimba competitions.
Her recordings include Marimba Cocktail, Arabesque, Marimba Japanesque, Asian Scene, Marimba Virtuoso, and Pieces of Peace. In 2018, she formed a trio with violinist Sachika Mizuno and electronic organist Hiromi Akatsuka and released Message for You. She has also produced four TROMP Percussion Seminars in Japan and served as a co-founding member of the International Percussion Educational Association in Shanghai.
As of August 13, 2026, Kamiya is professor of percussion at Tokyo College of Music, guest professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and Elisabeth University of Music, and percussion faculty at Kunitachi College of Music. She is a Yamaha artist and a Resta-Jay Percussions signature artist, for whom a Momoko Kamiya line of marimba mallets has been developed.
