Rebecca Kite is a US-based concert marimbist, percussionist, timpanist, writer, and educator. She earned a Bachelor of Music in percussion from the University of Missouri–Kansas City Conservatory in 1973 and a Master of Music in percussion from the Indiana University School of Music in 1977, where she studied with George Gaber. After hearing and performing with Keiko Abe at the 1981 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Kite redirected her career toward concert marimba and undertook advanced marimba study with Abe in 1985.
Kite has presented concerts, master classes, residencies, and clinics in the United States, Europe, Central and South America, and Japan. Her solo recordings are Across Time (1993) and Prism (1996), both currently available through streaming services. She is a Yamaha Performing Artist and lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
Her books include Reading Mallet Percussion Music, Anthology of Lute and Guitar Music for Marimba, and Keiko Abe – A Virtuosic Life: Her Musical Career and the Evolution of the Concert Marimba (2007). The Abe biography was published in Japanese in 2011 as 安倍圭子 マリンバと歩んだ音楽人生 －A VIRTUOSIC LIFE－. In 2024, the Percussive Arts Society presented Kite with its Lifetime Achievement in Education Award.
