Kunihiko Komori is a marimbist active as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. His appearances have included the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik and Darmstadt International Summer Courses in Germany, New York University’s Kimmel Center, the Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Hong Kong City Hall, Osaka Symphony Hall, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center, the Takefu International Music Festival, and Spring Festival in Tokyo.
Komori has contributed to the creation and performance of new marimba repertoire by composers including Toshio Hosokawa, Ichiro Nodaira, Atsuhiko Gondai, Kohei Mukai, Alejandro Viñao, James Wood, Luís Tinoco, John Serry, and Peter Klatzow. His work also includes collaborations with artists in dance, theatre, visual art, and other fields. His recordings include Marimbist. on Fontec and Masters, Masterworks on Nami Records. He plans and produces concerts as the representative of Stick Vox Klavier.
Komori earned a bachelor’s degree and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree and Graduate Performance Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory. His teachers included John Beck, William Moersch, and Robert Van Sice. His honors include first prize at the Crane New Music Festival and a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. He is a part-time lecturer in marimba and percussion chamber music at Aichi University of the Arts (as of May 2026) and an Adams Musical Instruments artist.
