MAKINO Misa is a marimbist and percussionist from Kanagawa. After attending Kanagawa Prefectural Kanagawa Sogo High School, MAKINO graduated in percussion from Tokyo University of the Arts and completed graduate studies there, receiving the Graduate School Music Acanthus Award and the first Hirayama Ikuo Culture and Arts Award. MAKINO was a finalist in marimba at the 31st Japan Wind and Percussion Competition in 2014.

MAKINO gave a first marimba recital in 2015 and worked as a contracted player with Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra from October 2016 to September 2019. Now a freelance performer, MAKINO is active in MOMA Percussion Quartet, the dance-and-percussion unit ritmonia, the percussion ensemble DRIVE, quint, and MONET marimba duo with KUME Ayane. Recordings include DRIVE IV, DRIVE V and quint’s Holberg Suite album.

MAKINO combines performing with teaching as a part-time lecturer at Shobi University and an adjunct lecturer in Seitoku University’s Faculty of Music.

On October 20, 2026, MAKINO Misa is scheduled to perform in MARIMBA ENSEMBLE ECLAT vol.2 at Fuchu Forest Art Theater’s Vienna Hall.
