Takayoshi Yoshioka is a Japanese marimbist, percussionist, composer, and educator. He began studying marimba at seven, percussion at nine, and composition at ten. After graduating from Toho Gakuen Music High School and the Toho Gakuen School of Music, he studied at the New England Conservatory. His teachers included Keiko Abe in marimba, Yoshitaka Kobayashi in percussion, and Sadao Bekku, Akira Miyoshi, and Takekuni Hirayoshi in composition.
Yoshioka has performed his own marimba concertos with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, Carlos Chávez Symphony Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra of Paraguay. His honors include first prizes in the University of Cincinnati International Composition Competition and the Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest, as well as the Muramatsu Prize, the Agency for Cultural Affairs National Arts Festival Grand Prize, and the Aoyama Music Award’s Barocksaal Prize.
He formed Marimba Duo Wings and represents the Super Marimba Project. The National Academy of Music’s 2025–2026 practical-studies guide lists him as a percussion instructor specializing primarily in marimba. Zen-On Music published his Suite No. 4 for Solo Marimba in 2023.
