Description
Helen Grime’s 2015 duet for clarinet in B-flat and trumpet in C lasts about five minutes. It was commissioned for the Tanglewood Music Center’s 75th anniversary, with support from the Paul Jacobs Memorial Commissions Fund.
Taking Grime’s Double Concerto as its starting point, the work explores the instruments’ affinities and differences in three sections. Bright unison phrases alternate with quiet replies at the opening. In the middle, the lines intertwine in an embrace. A final duet cadenza develops the opening material in the clarinet, while lyrical trumpet melodies emerge.Versions
