We are professional percussionists based in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. As experienced music educators, we know how important it is for students to play on a good-sounding, full-sized mallet percussion instrument during their study. And over the many years of teaching we noticed that acquiring a marimba can be a barrier for many. So we began searching for instruments to make available to our own students at reasonable rates without a long-term contract. Orlando Cotto
Raised in the traditions of Afro-Cuban and Puerto Rican music, Orlando Cotto learned to play the conga drums when he was just five years old. He has since developed a successful career as a marimbist and percussionist. As a student, Orlando has the dual distinction as the first marimbist to receive the Artist Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of Music and to win the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition. He was also recognized as the most outstanding student while studying at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. For his achievements in music, the Mayor of his hometown Cayey has honored him as a distinguished resident.

According to the San Juan Star, Orlando is "an artist of musical sensitivity and accomplished technique." As a solo marimbist, Orlando unites his solid classical training and Latin American background to create a powerful combination of rhythm and music previously uncharted in the marimba world. He regularly performs at international festivals, including Percussive Arts Society International Convention, and conducts workshops and master classes in colleges and universities throughout the United States. He has also been invited to perform in Asia, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and Central and South American.

Kuniko+Movses | Marimba & Violin Duo
Kuniko and Movses Pogossian (vl.) will perform marimba & violin duo concerts in US & Japan in Nov. 2010.
Back in 2008 at Monday Evening Concerts (MEC) in LA we performed Keiko Harada?s Bone#, a very difficult piece, and Movses played expressively and perfectly. Since then we?ve been talking about doing duo again.
The program includes 3 newly commissioned pieces for violin and marimba (percussions) by Vatche Sharafyan & Artur Avanesov from Armenia and Miyuki Ito from Japan.
Also the performance includes a few pieces from beautiful ?Armenian Song? by Komitas, etc..

Praised by the New York Times for his ?understated but unmistakable virtuosity? along
with a ?winning combination of gentleness and fluidity,? Svet Stoyanov is Professor and Director
of Percussion at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami.
Mr. Stoyanov is a winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in New
York City. This is also where he made his debut at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall as a cosoloist,
premiering the Phillip Glass Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra. Svet
Stoyanov has performed as a soloist with the Chicago, Seattle, American and Annapolis
Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Bulgarian Radio Orchestra, to name a few. Highlights in his
festival appearances include the The Ravinia Festival, Emilia Romagna, Made in America,
Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, River to River Festival, Look and Listen, PAS International
Conventions. Solo performances include Carnegie Hall?s Isaac Stern Auditorium and Weill Hall,
Merkin Hall, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Benaroya Hall, Orange County Performing Arts
Center, Avery Fisher Hall, and The Kennedy Center.
Svet Stoyanov?s debut CD ?Percussive Counterpoint? was released in 2009 to great
acclaim from both composers featured on the disk as well as music critics. It has been aired on the
radio throughout the USA, as well as abroad. Featured works include a transcription of Steve
Reich?s Electric Counterpoint, a new recording of Alejandro Vi?ao's Khan Variations, Eric
Sammut's Four Rotations and a video performance of Thierry de Mey?s Musique de Tables - a
theatrical work ?Ballet? for 3 sets of hands (enhanced CD feature).
A strong advocate for new music, Svet Stoyanov has commissioned and premiered dozens
of works. Some upcoming projects include Six Songs of E.E. Cummings for soprano and marimba
by Robert Xavier Rodriguez, Prelude; Invention; Suspension for saxophone quartet, percussion,
double bass and drumset by Gary Lindsey, percussion duo work by Martin Bresnick, two piano/
two percussion piece by Mark Dancigers, as well as a vibraphone solo work by Bruce Adolphe.
A passionate educator, Svet Stoyanov has presented numerous clinics throughout Europe
and USA. Most recently he was invited to join the faculty of International Katarzyna Mycka
Marimba Academy (2009) in Frankfurt, and has been featured as an associate faculty member at
the Nancy Zeltsman's Marimba Festival (2007).
Mr. Stoyanov chooses the quality of Pearl/Adams Percussion Instruments, Vic Firth mallets
and sticks, as well as Remo drumheads.
