As a side note, my wife Junko tends to end a concert with something like the second movement of "From the New World". "Red Sarafan" is another favourit. Both can be arranged into a four mallet piece with a beautiful texture of the sound.
Most Marimba literature tends to be very new, and many audience are not accostomed to such sounds. So, letting them return to where they feel familiar make them feel good. I often heard comments like "That encore was so good!" which is kind of ironical since the main concert most of the time is comprised with serious pieces. Unfortunately, that is where we stand though.
