Thanks guys. It probably is because the cord is too loose. It's been looking frayed and is probably loose by now as well. I've been meaning to replace it anyway, so this gives me the motivation to actually do it before the cord breaks.
Scott; agreed, it is a piece of crap, but I just started playing last year, and I want to go to school for music so I knew I needed a lot more practice than I could get on my school's good instruments. I only had $1500 in my bank account and my parents wouldn't pitch in, so this is what I'm stuck with until I go to college. I use it basically as your student does, as a bed-room practice instrument, and it still doesn't serve it's purpose too well. I can't imagine having this in a school where it would really get beat up on.
