A few of my favorite "largely tonal" marimba pieces are My Lady White by David Maslanka, Four Pieces for Marimba by Martin Elster, and several of the pieces by Ney Rosauro. These works have a tonal basis, but tend to stray 'out there.' Most modern works are not strictly tonal, and not just the ones for marimba. There however exist many pieces that have been transcribed for and work quite well on marimba. These include the Schumann and Tschaikowsky Albums for the Young, quite a bit of Bach, and many of the transcriptions by Rebecca Kite.
