Yip and I crossed paths with our posts.

Keiko Abe uses the traditional (not Burton) cross-grip, but she does play primarily double vertical rolls. Gordon Stout uses his own variation grip, a cross-grip with one finger between the mallets in the right hand and two fingers between the mallets in the left hand.

The "flam" roll Yip mentions is the original Musser ripple roll, but it has largely been supplanted by Stevens' lateral motion version, in any of the eight sticking permutations.
