Thanks for the information. The marimba does have two sets of resonator slots but I didn't know how moving the resonators would affect the sound or if the behavior could really be predicted. I have tried both positions and it doesn't seem to help but I can try again.
Since this is only two bars is realistic to believe that replacing the bars will resolve or at least reduce the problem. All of the other bars seem to be pretty consistent.
