Behzad,
By all means, pursue your ambitions. Study all aspects of music, including both performance (on multiple instruments, if possible) and composition. Learn the traditions, the vocabulary, and the "RULES" (and when & how to break them!).
Composition is an art, a skill and a craft, which needs to be studied well. In my (not so) humble opinion, there are far too many untrained practioners turning out marimba pieces which are little more than practice room improvisations. I am only interested in well-versed composers creating serious repertoire, lasting art for the instrument. Unfortunately, the advent of self-publishing has removed one of the traditional filters for quality, that of the publishing house and the editor.
Nevertheless, I encourage you to pursue your idea of traditional flamenco music for the marimba and, perhaps, the timpani. A thing is worth doing, if it is done well. Solo timpani is a dubious genre, but there have been a few (very few) pieces worth the attempt. Perhaps yours will be another...
I would be interested in seeing the results. You (or others) may contact me through the University of Illinois, as below.
