Thanks Mr. Moersch! That not re-attacking thing really helps. Its going to be tricky to get the tempo rocksteady with those grace notes. I think I just have to work on the runs enough so that they are done in one fast swoop.
Yeah, the Khan Variations will definitely have to hold off. Svet Stoyanov played a bit of it for me (as well as a recording of him that I have doing this piece). Its impossible. Though it is probably my most favorite piece, it would my dream to learn that. Some day! :) That also goes for Thomas' "Merlin". Such a tonally intreaging piece!
My auditions went pretty well. Thank you so much for your help! At my UMaryland audition, I did okay, but they denied me because they didn't have room for me (which was the case last year too). There are four faculty members and like 12 students there, but I think that it has to do with the Maryland government's funds, being as broke as they are.
My other audition was at Peabody. It was ashame that after 1 1/2 pages of Mirage, they stopped me. Not that its a good or bad thing, I am sure they just got an idea of my playing from that part. And you know how time restraints are at auditions. If I knew that I only had to do that little amount of it, I would have worked on just that! Oh well, atleast I didn't have to do the last page. :) But they asked me to do site-reading on marimba, and I nailed it pretty well. I also site read I think a John Cage trio for woodblocks, not too familiar with the piece. Both Mr. Haas and Mr. Van Sice were beside me playing it with me. Talk about nerve-racking! :) They also didn't ask for the SIX orchestral excerpts I had prepared. Again, a time restraint thing. Though I got an email a few days ago from Mr. Haas telling me that he would like me in his studio in the Fall. So that is really great. The only thing that needs to be done is the official accpetance by the Dean, but I grades were pretty good on my transcript. I will let you know when I get the official letter.
Anyways, thank you so much for helping me prepare the piece. It was alot of help and it meant alot considering that aside from the tips on this forum, I learned Mirage on my own.
