The easiest place to start is with fellow composition majors or faculty at your school. There are a lot of great pieces out there that exist for little more than cost of a good dinner or a bottle of wine.
Choose a composer whose music you already know and like. Start on an entry level, since that is probably what your finances are.
Good luck!
