Instrument height is very much a matter of personal preference. Using the "wrist joint" method for me results in too high a position, but individual height vs. arm length could have many variables.
My usual recommendation is that when your hands are in a comfortable playing position (usually with the forearm at approximately a 45-degree angle) and the mallet heads are resting on the natural bars, the handles of the mallets should be parallel to the surface of the bars.
