When I played this piece I found that the hardest part was keeping a nice, even rhythmic flow and not have certain notes pop out once in a while. This is one piece where recording yourself practicing can be of great help.
When I was first learning it, I learned similar sections together. The beginning to A is very similar to two-before-C to F. (LH ostinato, RH in octaves/sixths) I learned these chunks first; it was easier than learning the beginning to A, then A to B where the hands reverse, then switching my brain to an entirely new idea at B, then back to the original pattern two-before-C. After I had these learned, then I worked on A to B. I learned the little interludes last. (the section at B, E to F, and the last twelve bars or so)
I also have experimented recently with mallet selection as well. The first few times I played it I used med-hard in my LH and hard in my RH, but I'm thinking I like the sound better with a med-hard as #1, hard as #2, hard #3, and med-hard #4 (mallets numbered left to right, so the inner two are harder than the outer two. I'll figure it out when I get into a recital hall again.
Hope this helps, Kris
