Hi,
Still regarding Merlin rolls and despite all being said by several people (Bill Moersch, for whom the piece was written for), I think we must focus on music, real deep music making. Technique is vital (as vital as being able to express oneself in an idiom, in order to be understood as one wishes), but it is important to listen. Listening is the thoughest exercise to a musician and the most vital one. Something we forget, sometimes, is acoustics.
The same rolls on a church with 4 secs of reverb on a (for instance) Malletech with adams mallets, will sound like a different piece altogether if performed in a large dry cinema style theatre, with 0.4 secs reverb, on an Adams with Yamaha mallets -- all this for the sake of argument.
Recreating a musical work in different acoustic spaces is a huge challenge, but (in my opinion) the road worth taking.
All best wishes and thank you Nat, for revamping the site with such glamour and efficiency!
