Also, keep in mind that is it a muscle. If you go lift weights too extensively you are going to be sore the next day. Maybe it is just a bit of overuse? I sometimes have soreness after playing alot of exercises that deal exclusively with inside mallets. Because I don't use them in that way alot I don't have the endurance that I do with other things. Here is a question.....what piece are you playing when this happens? I am asking because maybe it is a specific motion that could be worked on. James Walker gave some very good advice. If it is large intervals work on that, inside mallets work on that. My point being....you wouldn't walk into a gym and try to bench press 300 pounds after not leaving you couch for a year. Go into it slowy.
Also if it is chronic....go to a doctor. Your hands are important...if there is a problem catch it early.
