Bogdan Bácanu is a Romanian marimbist and educator. He studied at Mozarteum University Salzburg with Peter Sadlo and subsequently developed an international career as a soloist and orchestral collaborator. His university biography records concerts in Europe, Asia, and the Americas and appearances with artists including Keiko Abe, Gidon Kremer, Peter Sadlo, Heinrich Schiff, and Momoko Kamiya.

Bácanu's activity has also helped enlarge the contemporary marimba repertoire. John Thrower, Alexander Müllenbach, and Emmanuel Séjourné are among the composers who have written and dedicated works or concertos to him. His discography includes solo and concerto recordings as well as albums made with the Wave Quartet, the marimba ensemble he founded.

Teaching, festivals, and competitions form another strand of his work. After building a marimba festival, he founded an international marimba competition in 2006 in cooperation with institutions in Salzburg and Linz. He is Professor of Marimba at Anton Bruckner Private University (as of July 15, 2026), a post its biography says he assumed at age 23. He previously taught marimba at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and continues to work as a lecturer and international competition juror.
