Kai Stensgaard is a Danish marimbist, composer, and educator who has worked to establish the marimba as a solo concert instrument in Scandinavia and internationally. His career includes recitals, orchestral appearances, masterclasses, clinics, broadcasts, and tours in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
Six-mallet performance is a particular focus of Stensgaard's work. He has published a method devoted to the technique and has written and arranged music that uses two, four, and six mallets. His catalogue includes Concierto Mexicano for marimba and symphony orchestra, together with solo pieces and chamber works shaped by his experience as a performer.
