I completely agree with taking artistic liberties
concerning tempi. Always remember that the most important
thing is not playing the piece at some unexplainable tempo,
but rather performing it at the tempo which the performer
believes makes the most musical sense. Whether or not the
tempo you choose lines up with the one on the page, it
doesn't really matter. I am sure that the composer won't be
offended as long as you use his indications as a guide.
