I agree that there are many publishers (and some composers) who don't seem to care about clarity or page turns, in fact, many publishers seem to care more about the cost of paper.
However, I have also had composers who prefer to see their music in their own hand (RRB), who do consider page turns (AT and others), and many who are happy to accept suggestions from a performer on issues of notation.
As for another side issue (TA), I would have to insist that it is far more important that percussionists learn to READ and begin to move away from the necessity of memorization. There are far too many musically illiterate percussionists, even at the (self-proclaimed) "professional" level -- an ironic contradiction and an embarassment to the profession.
