Hi Bill, I have used combinations of mallets on marimba solos and concerti (Vinaos concerto and tumblers for instance) and they were not from the same line/brand. I think if one practices with that in mind (i.e. using stickings that work with the mallets you are using, although sometimes slightly less confortable, due to repeated notes etc)there can be some nice polyphonic results.
