I just got the opportunity to play on a Vancore 5 octave with Quantas Rosewood, and I must say that the sound was considerably "thuddier" and less resonant than the M1 sitting next to it. The wood was also much darker, with a dull looking grain and finish. The wood definately isn't pretty, and the sound was quite disappointing. The price difference is definately due to the fact that Quantas is much cheaper and less suited for marimbas.
