I've done the Mayuzumi twice with orchestra now. I perform it on xylophone. I've used Malletech mallets both times.
The first time I used the BB34 for the 1st Movement, BB32 for the second movement and ORR39 for the last movement. This has been my choice for performing with piano as well.
The second time I used the ORR39 for the 1st and 3rd movements and the BB32 for the second movement. I originally wanted to use the BB34 for the first movement, but the acoustics of the hall didn't work with that, so I had to go harder. I've tried rubber mallets for the 2nd movement, but it doesn't really work with the octave Bb and A rolls after the triplet passage. I find that the hard core of the soft Becker sticks allows the upper note to sounds while the rubber band still has a softer sound for the lower notes.
