I agree that there are many recordings out there which have enormous numbers of wrong notes. I don't wish to point the finger at any one, but there are Japanese, American and European marimba players who have inaccurate recordings. Bare in mind that editing technology has change DRAMATICALLY over the last 40 years and what I can do on my home computer wasn't even available 20 years ago...

A recording is not proof of performance ability, it is an opportunity to craft a rendition of a piece which will withstand multiple listenings. I'm sure that we can all find live performances of ourselves on tape that contain wrong notes.

I think we can be happy with the direction of marimba recordings and should all strive to improve the standards of this wonderful instrument. It doesn't hurt anyone to be put under the musical microscope ocassionally, infact it's one of the best teachers I know.
