"ms" means "manuscript", as in "in the original manuscript it was..."
8va = one octave higher, 15va (not 16va!) = two octaves higher
"ossia" = "optional", usually a slightly easier version. In this case, I suggested doubling the G at the octave below to make the one-hand tremolo easier, but RRB prefered a B rather than the octave.
