Hey, I'm not entirely sure how much of this is valid, but the arguments i've heard were that a)it is very difficult to distinguish clearly the difference between 440 and 442, the effect is just that the note sounds slightly brighter, (although im sure there are those who'll tell the difference easily enough), and b) in a concert hall, especially with a large symphony orchestra, instruments will need to be tuned a little higher to allow for difference the heat will have on the tuning, apparently some instruments are tuning as high as 444 or 445 to stay in tune by the end of a long concert. I hope this has been helpful and has a substantial basis in truth, as i say, it is just what i have been told. :)
