Stevens grip is a fine grip as well as Burton, however it is merely an opinion that "stevens/musser" grip should be exclusively played on marimba, and "burton" grip be used on vibes. My suggestion is if you feel like learning a new grip to enhance your musical ablility fine, if not then attempt to master your musical skills using the grip you feel comfortable with. Zeltsman, Abe, Moersh, Mimura, etc..all play with a cross grip and perform with precision and extreme musicallity.
