no no, not great technique, but yes lite-weight compostition. his (first) concerto is an incredible milestone but that is a DIFFERENT discussion.
Planet marimba - wooden resonators with tunable caps: good idea, but they just sound TERRIBLE. AND the caps had felt on the side facing the bar, so instead of reflecting sound they SUCKED IT UP. terrible. BOTH rows of keys SHOOK WHEN YOU PLAYED ON THEM. how'd you like to miss notes because the notes moved? I wouldn't. no wheels? enough said. High gloss bars? what the hell? and I don't even want to IMAGINE what it weighs if it's all wood, holy crap. sorry guys but that's a miss, and for more then malletech's new marimba now there is no comparison.(they're new one is 2500 less then their regular 5.0 now, about the same price as the planet). and REGARDLESS of what you think of malletech's ANYTHING sounds better than the planet. if you disagree, you are wrong 101%.
