However, I am actually more interested in reviews on mallets and music, as they are a much more common purchase, and therfore a more common gamble. For instance, the She-e-Wu 14 mallets I just bought arrived yesterday. I like them a lot, but should have ordered a harder number, as they are really a little soft for the piece i was intending them for. I like them a lot, so I'll keep them, but user opinions probably could have steered me to get a harder level of these. Dig? --- RL, Point taken, and I understand your frustration(s), but I'm wondering just how valuable such a mallet review database would be. My mallet choices can vary so much from performance space to performance space, that it's tough to draw any concrete conclusions about mallets being "too hard" or "too soft," etc. I suppose the same comment could be made about mallet instrument reviews, but I think that with given models of vibraphones, marimbas, etc., there are more of their characteristics that come into play regardless of performance space or situation; if one has troubles with the intonation in the low octave of a given model of marimba, that's going to be troublesome in a recital hall, recording studio, practice room, etc. Ditto for rattles, wobbly frames, shoddy pedals on vibraphones, etc. So...I don't think I'll be creating any sort of a mallet database anytime soon (my hands are full enough with the mallet instrument database, on top of my other projects and endeavors), but if someone wants to get one going, then good on 'em - you're not the first person to express an interest in such information.
