I agree with you, James.

I think it was posted a couple of years ago in PAS network that the popularity of Stevens grip in U.S. may be attributable to the fact that not many Colleges and Universities in U.S. did not have Marimba speciallist in the faculty -- in which case, the importance of well written text book becomes very important, and Stevens' book was one of the best around. In case of Japan, major music colleges had and has Marimba speciallist in their faculty, and textbooks were less important there. That's only an opinion, but I thought his comment may be speaking some insight when I read the article.
